Sandbags for Job Sites, Film Sets and Events
Updated · 4 min read
Storm season is when most people think about sandbags, but across Los Angeles they work year-round — on construction sites, film sets and at outdoor events. Having them delivered filled and ready saves a crew hours of shoveling.
Construction: erosion and sediment control
Sandbag barriers are a standard stormwater best management practice on California construction sites. They're used to:
- slow and filter runoff at the edge of disturbed soil,
- protect storm-drain inlets from sediment,
- divert clean water around excavations and stockpiles, and
- check flow in small ditches and swales.
Your site's stormwater plan (SWPPP or erosion-control plan) sets exactly where barriers go and how they're built; sandbags give you a fast, adjustable way to meet it, especially when a storm is forecast and inspections are due.
Film and photo sets
Every light stand, C-stand and flag on a set needs weight on its base, and on location crews often need more ballast than the truck carries — canopies over video village, backdrop frames, wind breaks. Filled sandbags are an inexpensive way to top up, and a delivery to location saves a run to the yard.
Events, canopies and tents
Pop-up canopies and tents catch the wind like sails. Weighting every leg is standard practice — and frequently a condition of event permits — for markets, weddings, sports tournaments and film-location basecamps. Sandbags are easy to place, easy to move and don't damage lawns or pavement.
How many to order
For erosion control and diversion work, measure the length of barrier you need and use the sandbag calculator. For ballast, count the stands or legs you need to weight and multiply by the bags each one needs. Need a larger standing order for a project? Get in touch.
